A celebration of Dads!

It’s Father’s Day today – and that means it’s time to bust out all of our love for the dads in our lives. Just as the definition of mother has changed, I also think the definition of father has changed too. I know some really amazing dads who are dads to furry creatures only – but that doesn’t make them any less deserving of some recognition on this fine Sunday.

I am honored to have several amazing dads in my life – my dad – who taught me the meaning of working hard, and laid the groundwork for me to be brave enough to start my own business by watching him do the same, and who has always always believed in me and taught me to go for my dreams! My father-in-law, who has basically been a second dad to me for almost 2 decades now – who taught me all about unconditional love and support, and the meaning of family! And of course, my hubby, Tom, who taught me how a woman should be treated always with love and respect, and what it is like to truly have a life partner who always has your back, and humbles me daily with how amazing of a dad he is himself. Watching him raise our son to be a mini version of himself, is definitely a highlight of my life.

So many men out there don’t get the recognition that they deserve for quietly being the backbones of our lives. They mow the lawn, they take out the trash, they grill the food, and they quietly take care of their families to make sure they are safe and loved. Yes, sometimes they forget the trash, and maybe their version of cleaning the floor is not exactly the same as our version of cleaning the floor – but that doesn’t mean they don’t love you all the same!

Dads also get the reputation for telling ‘dad-jokes’ (which honestly, offends me – I LOVE a good, terrible joke…lol) – so I thought today was an excellent opportunity for me to share a few of my very favorite, that you dads out there can feel free to steal and pawn off as your own!

Q: What’s brown and stick?

A: A stick!

Q: What’s brown and hairy and wearing sunglasses?

A: A coconut on vacation!

Q: What’s blue and smells like red paint?

A: Blue paint!

Q: Why did the muddy chicken cross the road and then cross back?

A: Because he was a dirty double crosser!

I could go on for days with those…but I think that is a fair showing! So, whether you are a dad to a 2-legged child, or a 4-legged one, or a step-dad, or a grandfather, or a dad to an adopted child, or on and on – here’s to you! May your beer be frothy and your food be prepared by someone who is not you! May you enjoy the sunshine and get to relax, and may you know that all of us love you and appreciate all that you do to make our lives easier and better every day! Happy Father’s Day everyone!!
