Ashley
6-1/2 months old
Chi/Dachshund Mix
Female
*Medical Special Needs*
How can so much cuteness be wrapped up in just under 7lb?! Ashley is a special needs 6-1/2 month old chihuahua/ dachshund mix who joined us in early December after a commercial breeder had no use for her anymore. Due to living with no socialization in the first 3-4 months of life, Ashley is a bit timid. She takes a little bit to open up, but once she is ready it’s like opening up the flood gates! This girl is a lover. Her favorite spot is in a lap under a blanket ♥️
Ashley is also doing great with her 4-legged foster sisters! It took her a little bit to become their friend, but again.. once the floodgates opened they became BEST friends. She likes to eat her food in her own space, but she loves playing & laying with her foster sisters. Ashley would do well in a home with other dogs who are more relaxed and/or would understand her little dog syndrome. Along with most puppies her age, Ashley is still working on potty training. She sleeps well in her crate overnight and walks well on a leash for her short walks. If you hadn’t already noticed the resemblance, this is adoptable Wynonna and Naomi’s sister!
Since Ashley came to us with a heart murmur and her sister Naomi had a congenital heart defect, she had a whole cardiac workup. ❤️🩹 Ashley was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition called reverse patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), which affects how blood flows through her heart. Unfortunately, this isn’t a condition that can be surgically corrected, and it is expected to lead to heart disease and ultimately shorten her lifespan. That said, Ashley doesn’t know any of this—she’s a happy, playful, and normal puppy! Because of her condition, she is considered special needs and needs a family who will cherish her for however long she has. While we hope she’ll have years ahead, this is a rare condition with limited statistics available. Ashley will require a monthly medication that costs under $40, and her future family will need to continue her care. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to this incredibly sweet and deserving girl, apply now so we can tell you more about her!
